Directors and Management

The Company has a small but highly skilled and experienced management team. In line with good management principles the Company exercises a tight control over cash and avoids fixed overhead costs where practical. This is reflected in employment contracts which are flexible and minimise costs when activity is reduced. The Company has also established a network of very competent professional advisors who can complement the core team during peak periods of activity.

Matthew King - Chairman

A graduate in law from Durham University, Matthew is currently Non-Executive Chairman of Funding Circle Limited a leading United Kingdom peer-to-peer lending platform and a Non-Executive Director of Prodigy Finance Limited, which provides funding to international students at over 750 universities and colleges worldwide. Having qualified as a solicitor with Slaughter and May, he held a number of risk management positions with HSBC in Asia, Australia, the Americas and Europe. He has a wealth of experience in both developed and developing countries.


David Archer - Chief Executive Officer

David is a non-practising Barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, holds a B.Ec and is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He has had wide experience in the mining industry for over 30 years, with specific expertise in the development and operation of copper/gold projects. David has held executive and non-executive roles in a number of listed companies and has been actively involved in the international resources industry. He was the Senior Independent Director of Anglo Pacific Group Plc from 2014 to 2019. He is the former Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of Savage Resources Limited, Managing Director of Hillgrove Resources Limited, Executive Chairman of PowerTel Limited and Chairman of Hostworks Group Limited. He was a director of Eastern Star Gas Limited from 2006 to 2009.


Dale Ferguson - Technical Director

Dale graduated in 1993 with a BSc with 1st Class Honours, Double Major in Geology, from Latrobe University, Melbourne and is a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He has over 25 years’ across many commodities including both precious and base metals, mineral sands and lithium. His experience spans greenfields and near mine exploration, resource delineation, feasibility studies, project licensing, due diligence investigations, mine development and operations.


Maqbool Ali Sultan – Non-Executive Director

Mr Maqbool Ali Sultan has significant business experience in Oman, the Middle East and internationally. In 1987 he was elected as President of the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry before being appointed as Minister of Commerce and Industry in 1991, a role which he held until 2011. During this time he represented the Government of Oman in a number of organisations, including as Chairman of Oman Oil Co., Chairman of Sohar Industrial Port, Chairman of Capital Market Authority, and as a Member of the Executive Committee of the State General Reserve Fund. Since 2011 he has been Group Advisor of W J Towell and Co. LLC*. He is also the Chairman of the Omani British Friendship Association. He was appointed as a member of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Oman on 10 September 2020 for a period of 5 years by Royal Decree.


Imad Kamal Abdul Redha Sultan – Non-Executive Director

Mr. Imad Kamal Abdul Redha Sultan is Vice Chairman and Deputy Managing Director of W. J. Towell and Co. LLC*. Having started his career as a Trainee Marketing Executive, Mr. Imad Kamal Abdul Redha Sultan joined W. J. Towell as a Business Development Manager in 1995, before advancing to his current role. He has accrued extensive managerial and board experience during his time with the company and currently serves as director and/or chairman on a number of W. J. Towell Group companies including Towell Engineering Group, Enhance Group of companies and General Electric & Trading Company LLC. Other notable board positions held include serving as a director on the boards of the National Bank of Oman SAOG and Oman International Development and Investment Company SAOG (Ominvest) in the past, and National Hospitality Institute SAOC & Oman Arab Bank SAOG at present.


James Leahy – Non-Executive Director

James has more than 32 years’ experience in financial services, with a specialisation in commodities. Having begun his career at the London Metal Exchange, James has held a variety of roles, including analyst, equity salesman and specialist corporate broker, which covered mining finance, origination and distribution. He has worked on a wide range of projects worldwide, ranging from industrial minerals, coal, iron ore, precious metals, copper, diamonds, lithium, uranium, plantations, forestry and palm oil. Over the course of his career he has worked at James Capel, Credit Lyonnais, Nedbank, Canaccord and Mirabaud. Most recently, James has gained executive experience serving as an independent director on the Boards of a number of quoted and unquoted companies.

Manohar Pundalik Shenoy – alternate for Maqbool Ali Sultan

Mr Manohar Pundalik Shenoy holds three professional qualifications, Chartered Accountant, Cost and Works Accountant; and Company Secretary, in addition to possessing a B.Com (Honours) in Commerce, Economics & Advanced Accountancy from Bombay University. Mr Shenoy has since also participated in INSEAD’s Advanced Management Programme (AMP). He has over 45 years’ corporate experience and since January 2015 has acted as Financial Advisor to Al Marjan Limited. He is currently Group Chief Financial Officer of W J Towell and Co. LLC*. Within this role, Mr Shenoy has responsibility for group’s treasury, parent company and group consolidated audited accounts, group budgeting and management reporting, and group taxation. He is also a member of the Finance and Investment sub-committees of the board. Prior to this, Mr Shenoy worked with a number of multi-national corporations, particularly in India and Russia, as Finance Director / Chief Financial Officer.


Murtadha Ahmed Sultan – alternate for Imad Kamal Abdul Redha Sultan

Mr Murtadha Ahmed Sultan holds a Diploma in Sales and Marketing and is a Director of W J Towell and Co. LLC*. Having joined W J Towell in 1975 Mr Murtadha Ahmed Sultan has built a wealth of experience working in Oman at a Board level. His responsibilities within W J Towell include acting as Chairman for a number of companies, including Towell Auto Centre LLC, Agility (PWC Logistics) and Towell Mattress & Furniture Industry, Sharjah. He also has extensive experience working with publicly limited (joint stock) companies, like Sohar Power Company, Oman Flour Mills, Oman Air, etc. in the past and currently hold the chairmanship in United Power Company (SAOG), Gulf International Chemicals (SAOG) and Barka Desalination Company (SAOC) . He also held a member of Omani government organisations, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), The Public Authority for Investment Promotion & Export Development (ITHRAA) and Corporate Governance – Capital Market Authority (CMA)



Michael McGarty - Chief Financial Officer

A graduate in Finance from Manchester University’s Business School, and a qualified accountant. Michael has over a decade’s experience in the executive management team of a listed public company focused on mineral exploration in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, including significant experience of resource development, strategic planning, fundraising, M&A transactions and contract negotiation. Previously having 16 years’ experience working with Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR), a leading global manufacturer. Taking on roles of increasing responsibility, covering all areas of accounting and finance he led the European Sarbanes Oxley compliance initiative, and served for seven years as Financial Controller for businesses covering Europe, Middle East and Africa, including the provision of business partner support and strategic planning


Joao Barros - Portugal Country Manager

Joao Barros, BSc (Civil Engineering) and MSc (Geology), has more than 17 years of relevant experience in the field of activity concerned. Mr. Barros is a Member of the Portuguese Engineers Association. Mr. Barros has a strong technical knowledge, with significant senior management experience in the mining sector, in different commodities such as lithium, gold, tungsten, tin and VMS deposits. Currently on Board of other listed and non-listed mining companies.


Asa Bridle - Commercial Officer / Business Development Manager

Asa has over 20 years of relevant experience across geology, commodity marketing, mining equity research and business development. Prior to joining Savannah, he spent 13 years as a mining equities analyst based in London covering small and mid-cap mining stocks and was ranked No.1 (2017), No. 2 (2018) and No.3 (2011) stockpicker for European mining equities by Thomson Reuters in its annual Analyst Awards during that time. Before becoming a mining analyst, Asa studied geology at Oxford University and Mineral Deposit Evaluation at The Royal School of Mines, Imperial college, London, worked as a geologist, and in marketing, research and trading roles in the Precious Metals Division of FTSE 100 speciality chemicals company, Johnson Matthey. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London and a Member of the UK Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.


Joana Prazeres - Head of Communication and Community Affairs

Graduated in Marketing, Executive Master in Marketing Services by IADE and Executive Master in Management and Digital Innovation by Católica Lisbon Business School. Joana has been developing her career in Marketing and Communication, holding positions as Marketing Manager, Brand & Product Manager and Key Account Manager in several multinational companies, in a wide range of industries.

Over almost 20 years developing her professional career in several dynamic markets, such as construction, appliances or real estate, in companies such as Sika, AEG-Electrolux or Leroy Merlin, with responsibilities especially in the area of strategic marketing and communication, business development, negotiation, team management and budget control.
